A little more about Doug…
Doug grew up on his family’s daily farm in northern lower Michigan, within a very tight-knit community made up primarily of descendants of Dutch immigrants. Although he tended the newborn calves on the farm as a child and helped with other chores like putting up hay, scraping stables, and picking stones from the fields, he never milked a cow.
Doug was a first-gen student many years ago at Hope College in Holland, Michigan, and was the first in his family to receive a bachelors degree as well as a masters degree.
Doug and his husband, Michael, live nearby at Netherwood, a 7-acre historic property located near Windsor Lake in North Adams, where they run a small inn. Doug & Michael are both into American history, and they enjoy local day trips (Manchester, VT is a favorite). Their pugs, Holland & Pete, provide good company.
